Treble Shoes

Costume / Shoes

There are two types of Irish Dancing shoes. These are divided into categories by whether you are a boy or girl, and the dance you are performing.

Heavy Shoes

Heavy shoes are known also as Treble shoes or Raleigh Shoes (depending on your class). These are worn by both male and female dancers and are introduced when the beginner light shoe dances have been mastered.

The soles are made of leather or suede and are extremely bendy. Tips and heels are generally fibreglass blocks or wood. This is what causes the sound of a tap.

Treble shoes are secured with front laces and straps across the foot.
