What is a feis?

Pronounced: Feis [FeSH] (like fish with an ‘e’)

Plural: Feiseanna [FeSHanna]

A feis is an opportunity for dancers of a like age and grade to compete against each other in an open arena. Feis is an irish word and when translated means ‘festival’.

The feis often has live musicians and will most definitely have a live audience.

Dancers at a feis represent their own dance class and can travel from all over the world to participate.

Be sure to read the feis tips if attending your first one, it’ll make it a more enjoyable event!

Adjudicator

An adjudicator will judge the competition and will ring a bell when the dancers should stop. Dancers generally line up and dance in twos or threes, depending on the size of the floor and the competition. Don't be afraid to go first!
